Spring is Brewing - My First Halifax Market!

My First Market of the 2023 Season
Hello everyone!
I am writing to you from the EAST COAST of Canada now and wanted to give you some insight into my most recent market I did in my hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I tagged a very short video with a very short description above that explains that I have moved from an island in the west coast to an island in the east coast. Feel free to ask more about that in the comments section below.
It has been my intention to have a blog for years and year now, and although I still find this incredibly daunting, I know it will be beneficial to have a written diary entry on what the market was like for selfish reasons. And on the off chance you were curious about it, well then you're in the right place.
The Mom Market Collective
If you haven't heard of them already, you should definitely take a look at their website and see if they are operating in an area near you. This was my third market with this collective and first one in Halifax and honestly these events never disappoint! Somehow, across the country they are able to deliver a consistent atmosphere that is warm, inviting, and sensory overload in the very best way.
With this Halifax market, my single goal was to make it a great day and be thankful that I was able to bring Birachelle to it's third city. I didn't have to make it a great day, the weather absolutely blessed us (which unfortunately meant a smaller turn out) and the venue of the Halifax Brewery Market was the vibe that dreams are made of!
Possibly the best part is the lovely curated group of vendors that always gets put together. It has become rare that I don't leave each market with new maker friends and that is always the best takeaway for me!
The Prep Work
This year, I took a big step and added garments into my mix of offerings. I have always dreamed of designing clothing, and although I am currently using patterns purchased from my boss bases, it still makes me extremely proud to be able to make these garments with my HANDS and offer them as part of my brand collective.
With the addition of garments brings the burdening question, how the heck am I going to display them!? I knew that my typical table display was not going to cut it this time, and that I would have to call in the big guns.
My husband and I managed to put together this 'peg board' concept out of some highly marked down privacy wall pieces from Home Depot. I knew I needed to be able to move things around until I found the display that looked the best. This isn't perfect by any means, and frankly is quite the commitment to set up and take down, but sheesh am I ever happy with how everything looked!
If you're thinking of doing a market and have questions about my display, let me know in the comments section below! I am happy to create another blog with some resources :)
Here was the bump in the road..
All I wanted was a nice big vinyl sign for my display. I know many before me that have them, and I know many after me will have them. The truth is, it was not written in the stars for me to receive the correct sign in time for this market.
If you notice in my mock display in my basement above, you might see that the vinyl hanging sign does not have 'Birachelle' written as an outline instead of bold opaque letters like the way the proof was submitted.
Luckily I had ordered the sign in time to get in contact with the company, and they had a new one sent out right away. The replacement sign even arrived on the Friday before I had to pack up the car to drive to Halifax the following Saturday.
Here is the kicker - didn't the replacement sign also have 'Birachelle' as an outline!!??!? Yup, it sure did. So here I was, the night before the market, on my hotel room floor, coloring in the outline with a Sharpie marker so that people will be able to read what brand I even am!
The Best Yet
It may seem a bit bold for me to say it, but this was my best display, and best enjoyed experience of a market yet! I am so proud with how my display turned out and for fun, here's a little recap of what my first market looked like (under my previous business name) fast forward to my most recent market!
I feel so lucky to have made the connections I did with the other amazingly talented makers I met. The vibe of the Brewery Market most definitely added to the positive experience, and I am happy to announce that I have one more market booked there again in October! Check out my newly added Local Events Page for a current list of my booked events :)
